37” Wide Metalworking EZ Sander

The Apex EZ Sander is a cost-effective way to finally upgrade your deburring and finishing operations, moving away from time-consuming hand grinding. With just a quick change of the abrasive belt, this compact machine can remove slag/dross, grind vertical burrs, or straight grain finishing (including some mill scale removal).

The EZ Sander was developed to fit the needs of both small metalworking shops, as well as, large production facilities looking for an easy way to run small projects “off-line” from their main production flow. With a small footprint and the ability to mount on casters, this machine is portable enough to fit almost any shop. Don’t let the small size fool you, the EZ Sander is loaded with features and is heavy-duty enough to provide years of dependable, consistent, labor saving production.

The Apex model CWDC-5HP wet dust collector is designed to filter the air by removing particulates from the air being exhausted into a wet chamber reducing the possibility of sparks catching fire in certain applications.

The Model EZ3760M is a single head wide belt sander that is engineered and built with a heavy-duty welded frame for long life and durability while maintaining a small footprint. The 37” x 60” abrasive belt used on the sanding head is perfect for simple deburring and/or finish sanding of your parts. The sanding head consists of a 6” diameter cam adjustable contact drum and has enough power to get the job done. The machine is equipped with safety features to help protect the operator and the machine, including an over thick shut off system located at the infeed, air caliper disc braking for the sanding head, and switches for abrasive belt tension/mis-tracking and door interlock. When activated, the safety system stops machine motion within 5 seconds.

A Closer Look

Centralized Control Panel
The control panel is centrally located to allow the operator easy access to properly operate and adjust the machine while loading parts onto the conveyor belt at the infeed loading area.

Motor Load Meter
The load meter reads electrical current being used by motor for the main sanding head. This analog display provides instant feedback about how hard the motor is being used, which allows an operator to easily fine-tune operating conditions.

Hour Meter
The hour meter works like the odometer of your car to keep track of how much time the machine has been in operation. This is often used for tracking preventative maintenance.

Push Button Control
It does not get easier than Red/Green buttons to Stop/Start the machine. A toggle switch is used to jog the sanding head and conveyor belt during set-up.

Conveyor Speed Control
The feed drive motor is controlled with a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD). This allows you to change how fast your parts are moving through the machine simply by turning a knob.

Digital Thickness Readout
The control panel features a digital readout used to set the height of the conveyor bed to the desired thickness. Display can be set to show either Inch or Metric and is accurate to 0 .001”/0.01mm.

Motorized Bed Adjustment
A toggle switch (located below the thickness readout) activates the conveyor bed lifting motor to quickly adjust for part thickness.

This allows the operator to easily raise or lower the contact drum when changing to a thicker/thinner abrasive belt. A dial indicator provides instant feedback during adjustment, which allows for quick and repeatable adjustments.

It is important that the dual infeed/outfeed pinch-rolls are accurately positioned in relation to the abrasive belt, so they provide proper hold down pressure while parts are being processed. Without an easily adjustable drum, an operator would need to manually adjust the height of all 4 pinch-rolls (to maintain proper alignment) and re-calibrate the digital thickness display each time abrasive belt thickness changed.

Pneumatic Belt Tensioning
An air cylinder is used to tension the abrasive belt, which allows for fast changeover times and flexibility for your abrasives/application.

Automatic Abrasive Belt Tracking
This standard feature uses an electronic emitter and receiver to sense the abrasive belt. This electronic system then activates an air cylinder which pivots the tensioning roller, moving the belt back to the center of the sanding head.

Air Operated Disc Brake
Mounted on the main motor shaft for easy maintenance, the disc brake is activated when any undesirable event occurs: Abrasive Belt Breaking or mis-tracking, an Emergency Stop is Activated, or the machine door is opened. Upon activation, the abrasive belt head will consistently stop in approximately five seconds. This braking system will not fade under continuous braking and has non-sparking, easily replaceable linings.

Dual Rubber Covered Infeed and Outfeed Hold-Down Rolls
Two heat resistant rubber-covered, spring-loaded rolls are installed before and after the sanding head. Using two rollers provides maximum control to parts as they pass through the machine.

Applications
Abrasive Belt Heads are ideal for slag/dross removal, burr grinding, mill scale grinding and straight grain finishing. Abrasive media can be quickly and easily changed for specific job requirements.

Shipping to Customer
It is often more economical for you to arrange for the pickup of your new Apex machine with your preferred freight carrier. We are happy to work with you to make the arrangements for pickup. If you would like us to make freight arrangements for you, we can do so through one of our preferred carriers. Please call for a quote as costs frequently change, and freight quotes are typically only good for a few weeks. All of our machines are sent FOB Origin.

On-Site Machine Start-up and Operator Training
An Apex Service Technician will travel to your facility to verify that your machine is aligned and operates properly. After ensuring that your machine is dialed in and ready for production; our technician will train your operators and maintenance staff to help them understand the capabilities of your new machine, as well as, best practices and procedures for their respective duties.

5 HP | Wet Dust Collector
If you don’t already have a dust collector, an Apex CPWDC-5 Wet Dust Collector is a perfect solution for your new EZ Sander. Using water as the filter media to capture sanding debris means there are no filter bags or socks to change. Additionally, sparks and heat are cooled by the water bath to reduce the chance of a thermal event.
The dust collector has a small footprint and is mounted on four heavy-duty casters, making it easy to move around the shop. Available in either single phase or three phase configurations and either 230 or 460 Volts, we can accommodate your shop’s electrical requirements. Be sure to specify dust collector voltage/phase requirements. The wet duct collector comes with industrial grade rigid duct work to connect the EZ Sander to the collector.
